Application Information

Applicants to the West Penn Hospital pharmacy residency program must have graduated from an accredited school of pharmacy, exhibit a sincere interest in pursuing a career in patient-focused pharmacy practice, and be licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Pennsylvania.

Applications will be accepted through January 2. Application materials should include the following:

  • Letter of intent
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Three professional letters of recommendation (PhORCAS standardized template)
  • Academic transcript (submitted directly to PhORCAS)

An interview is also required (may be virtual or on-site). The residency generally commences before the end of June.

Candidates must submit their application electronically via ASHP PhORCAS and also participate in the ASHP residency matching program.

Please note, there are two PGY1 residency programs available within West Penn Hospital. A candidate that wishes to apply must submit separate applications to each individual program. The program listings in PhORCAS and the National Matching Service are:

  • Acute Care Setting: West Penn Hospital; NMS Code 23085
  • Ambulatory Care Setting: West Penn Hospital; NMS Code 23959
